1. Using the pipette, draw up some of the buffer liquid from the large refill bottle and fill the smaller extraction bottle up to the indicated line on the label. Do not throw the pipette away (you will need it for further refills).
2. Select your plant sample and break up into small pieces, then add to the extraction bottle.
3. Replace the lid on the extraction bottle and shake the sample for 20-30 seconds.
4. Remove the lid of the extraction bottle and take out one dipstick from the clear tube with the screw-top lid (handle the dipstick by the white end only, and remember to replace the lid on the tube). Place the dipstick into the extraction buffer with the red end into the liquid. Leave the dipstick in the buffer liquid for 5 minutes for results to develop. Tip: make sure the central region of the dipstick does not come into contact with any drops of lquid around the bottle opening when putting the red end into the sample.
5. Results: One blue line = negative, no blight detected. Two blue lines = positive, blight detected.
6. Finally, thoroughly rinse the extraction bottle, taking care not to lose any of the steel balls. Dry the bottle and balls ready for your next test.
